CCaLC2 FOR WINDOWS CARBON FOOTPRINTING TOOL
CCaLC2 for Windows is the second generation of the CCaLC carbon fooprinting tool that enables quick and easy estimations of the life cycle greenhouse gas emissions along the whole supply chains. Installed as a standalone desktop application and incorporating a range of usability benefits, there is no requirement to have Microsoft Excel installed.
Benefits of CCaLC2 for Windows: |
- Faster and more responsive
Calculations are performed quicker, databases are accessed quicker and the user interface responds faster to user actions.
- More intuitive
With more control over the user interface, CCaLC2 provides increased functionality while being more intuitive to use. For example, clicking on a raw material, energy or waste item in an overview table now enables one-click editing or deletion of that item from your analysis.
- New and updated databases
Includes approximately 300 new datasets provided from ecoinvent 3 as well as updating all previous ecoinvent 2 datasets with other environmental impacts (acidification, eutrophication, ozone layer depletion, photochemical (summer) smog and human toxicity).
- Improved sharing
Your CCaLC2 analyses are now saved as independent and relatively small files that can be easily copied, pasted, moved, shared with colleagues and opened on other PCs with CCaLC2 installed - just like you would any other Windows file. They can even be password protected for added security.
- Always up to date
CCaLC2 automatically checks for updates and prompts the user when an updated version is available for download.
- Future proofed
With the size of the databases and complexity of the calculations being performed CCaLC was pushing the limits of Excel. Rebuilt from scratch and unbound by the limitations of Excel it will now be easier to add extra functionality to future versions of CCaLC2. Watch this space!

CCaLC2 for Windows provides a powerful tool for reducing and managing carbon footprints of products, processes or supply chains.
The methodological approach follows the internationally accepted life cycle methodology as defined by ISO 14044 and PAS 2050.
The tool is simple to use by non-experts and it comes with comprehensive databases, including the ecoinvent database. User-defined databases can also be added.

Features |
- Carbon footprinting
The CCaLC2 tool enables calculations of carbon footprints from 'cradle to gate' (business to business) or 'cradle to grave' (business to consumer). It also helps to identify carbon 'hot spots' and carbon reduction opportunities.
- Water footprinting
In addition to carbon footprints, CCaLC2 also incorporates water footprint calculations to take into account water scarcity in different countries.
- Other environmental impacts
CCaLC2 also calculates other environmental impacts to show how they may be affected by any changes in the carbon footprint. These include acidification, eutrophication, ozone layer depletion, photochemical (summer) smog and human toxicity.
- Economic impacts
CCaLC2 enables estimation of economic value added, to show the trade-offs between 'carbon added' and 'value added'. The cost of reducing carbon footprints can also be estimated.
- Cumulative energy demand
CCaLC2 allows estimation of cumulative energy demand through the system using either datasets provided or user data. A breakdown of non-renewable and renewable energy is also provided.
- Optimisation of carbon footprints
CCaLC Optimiser enables identification of optimum low-carbon options at minimum costs.
- Databases and case studies
A number of databases and case studies are included in CCaLC2 which can be modified to suit the specific needs of the user. Databases include: materials, energy, transport, packaging and waste. Overall, there are over 6000 data items included in the databases. The case studies include chemicals and relate products, food and drink, bio-feedstocks, biofuels and packaging.
